Digitek Digoxin Tablets Recalled: Possible Double Dose Released by Accident
from Heartwire — a professional news service of WebMD
Shelley Wood

April 29, 2008 (Morristown, NJ) - The manufacturer of Digitek digoxin tablets is recalling the product, saying that it may have accidentally released pills that are double the normal thickness, carrying twice the normal dose [1].
Digoxin is used in the treatment of arrhythmias and heart failure, and a double dose could cause toxicity, most notably in patients with renal failure. According to a press release from Digitek's manufacturer, Actavis, digitalis toxicity "can cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness, low blood pressure, cardiac instability, and bradycardia," and even death.
The FDA is alerting doctors and the public to the recall via its MedWatch program. The agency notes that several reports of illness and injury have been reported. Digitek is distributed by Mylan Pharmaceuticals under a Bertek label and by UDL Laboratories under a UDL label, the Actavis press release notes.Actavis.
Actavis Totowa (formerly known as Amide Pharmaceutical Inc) recalls all lots of Bertek and UDL Laboratories Digitek (digoxin tablets, USP) as a precaution [press release]. April 25, 2008. Available at: http://www.actavis.us/en/media+center/newsroom/articles/digitek+recall.htm

Spotlight On: Patti Dmytrow - Our Resident Chef

Patti Dmytrow has been with Michael J. O'Connor & Associates since November of 2007. She not only is the full-time receptionist here, but she keeps everyone in the office appeased by bringing in treats. She graciously bakes a cake for everyone's birthday! This is one of the reasons why the spotlight is now on Patti.

Patti was born and raised in Pottsville, PA. She attended Nativity BVM High School in Pottsville, class of 1982, and then went on to Chabot College in Hayward, CA where she studied accounting. Patti then decided to attend Health Options Institute in Bethlehem to become a certified massage therapist. She lived in California and Washington states for a few years in that time.

She enjoys reading, gardening, and traveling to learn about other cultures. Patti loves a challenge and likes to learn how to do things for herself, like learning to fix things around the house. She is a big fan of NASCAR and the Seattle Seahawks. She loves spending time with friends and family, and her adopted dog Douglas. She rescued Douglas 2 1/2 years ago when her owners wanted to put her to sleep due to her diabetes. And of course, she loves cooking and baking, especially for her beloved coworkers.

Patti is truly a jack of all trades as she has worked in retail, child care, animal care, as a corporate travel agent, and a waitress. Along with working at Michael J. O'Connor & Associates now, she is a massage therapist at Studio 16 in Pottsville. She now provides this office with her valuable services and is truly an asset here.

Our resident chef has graciously agreed to share one of her recipes for the general public's use and pleasure. It is an enormously popular dish of hers that she says is ideal for summer picnics as it contains no mayonnaise. Without further ado, here is Patti Dmytrow's recipe for Ramen Noodle Salad:

Ramen Noodle Salad

1 bag Cole Slaw mix
3 packages Ramen Noodles broken
1 small onion finely chopped

Mix in a large bowl

2/3 cup olive oil extra virgin
3/4 cup white vineager
1/2 cup sugar
3 season packets from the Ramen noodles
Salt and pepper to taste

Mix together and pour over the cole slaw mixture

1/2 cup almonds
1/3 cup sunflower seeds

On a sprayed cookie sheet broil for 1-2 minutes or until lightly toasted. Cool and add to salad.

Refrigerate for about 1 hour and serve.

Enjoy the salad and don't forget to contact Michael J. O'Connor & Associates for your legal needs. Our team of qualified attorneys is waiting to help!

Man sues Uniontown police over Tasering at home

The Associated Press

June 02, 2008

UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) _ A man has filed suit in federal court accusing Uniontown police of zapping him with a Taser while arresting him at his home on an outdated warrant.

The lawsuit filed by Morris Earquhart in federal court in Pittsburgh said two officers responded to a 911 hang-up call at his home on Dec. 1, 2006. They left after Earquhart's wife told them nothing was wrong, but returned moments later with an arrest warrant, the suit said.

Earquhart, 35, said he had paperwork to prove that a judge had rescinded the warrant three months earlier, but when he tried to show it to police he was Tasered. He said the Tasering caused him to lose control of his bladder and left him with permanent nerve damage.

"The officers' conduct is outrageous," said Kelly Graham, one of Earquhart's attorneys. "They should have taken the time to listen to what he was saying. They refused to listen. This could have been avoided."

The suit, which seeks unspecified damages, names the city and the officers as defendants and accuses them of illegal actions "based in whole or in part" on the race of Earquhart, who is black.

The city hasn't responded to the suit filed Thursday. City solicitor Ricardo Cicconi did not immediately return a call seeking comment Saturday.
