Hydroxycut has been a popular, low-cost weight loss and energy enhancing dietary supplement used for years by millions of people, including dieters and body builders. However, reports of serious liver conditions stemming from the use of Hydroxycut have been reported to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). As a result, on May 1, 2009 the FDA issued a warning to all consumers urging them to stop using Hydroxycut. Iovate Health Sciences, makers of Hydroxycut, agreed to voluntarily recall their Hydroxycut-branded products from the marketplace. Consumers are advised to stop using Hydroxycut products and to return them to their place of purchase.

The 23 reports of health problems documented by the FDA include jaundice, elevated liver enzymes, a case of liver damage requiring liver transplantation, as well as one death due to liver failure.

Even when following the recommended dosage on the Hydroxycut label, patients reported liver injury, although this was rare. Symptoms of liver injury that some patients experienced included jaundice and brown urine.

• Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Rapid Release Caplets
• Hydroxycut Carb Control
• Hydroxycut Hardcore Drink Packets (Ignition Stix)
• Hydroxycut Hardcore Liquid Caplets
• Hydroxycut Hardcore RTDs (Ready-to-Drink)
• Hydroxycut Liquid Shots
• Hydroxycut Max Aqua Shed
• Hydroxycut Max Drink Packets
• Hydroxycut Max Liquid Caplets
• Hydroxycut Natural
• Hydroxycut Regular Drink Packets
• Hydroxycut Regular Rapid Release Caplets

The only Hydroxycut products that are not affected by the recall include Hydroxycut Cleanse and Hoodia.
